Cardinal Steels Trimline Guttering
Our trimline guttering system provides a sleek, architectural finish. Factory-bent to your specific roof pitch and supplied in 3m lengths, this steel guttering is designed for a precise and efficient installation.
This guide outlines the key installation requirements and best practices to help ensure the system performs as intended.
When installing trimline guttering it is important to remove all metal swarf (shavings from drilling and fixing) out of the gutter immediately.
Leaving swarf in the gutter can lead to localised rust spots on the coating.
1. Installing the Support Arms
The support arms provide the structural foundation for the
gutter.
- Position the support arms onto the ridges (top crowns) of the box profile roofing sheets.
- Space the arms at regular intervals (typically 600mm – 1000mm).
- Fix the arms through the roofing sheet and into the purlins below using appropriate primary fixings.
2. Mount the Gutter
Since the gutter is pre-bent to your roof’s pitch, it will sit perfectly parallel to the building once attached to the arms.
- Align the top edge of the 3m gutter section with the ends of the support arms.
- Secure the gutter to each arm using either stitcher screws or pop rivets.
3. Joining Lengths
For runs longer than 3 meters, use the internal butt straps to connect sections.
- Slide the butt strap halfway into the first gutter section.
- Slide the next 3m gutter length over the strap until the sections meet.
- Secure the joint by fixing through the gutter face into the internal strap using stitcher screws or rivets at both ends of the join.
*For an enhanced water seal, apply a bead of silicone to the strap before sliding it into place.
4. Attach Stop Ends
- Fit the stop ends to the start and finish of your gutter run.
- Fix securely into place using stitcher screws or rivets.
*Optional: Apply a small amount of silicone to the contact edge for a secondary water seal.
5. Site-Cut Outlets
Outlets are installed on-site to ensure perfect alignment with your downpipe locations.
- Mark the required position and drill the outlet hole through the base (sole) of the gutter using a hole saw.
- Drop the outlet inside the hole so the flange sits flush against the gutter base.
- Fix the outlet in place using stitcher screws or rivets through the flange and into the gutter sole
*Optional: Place a bead of silicone under the outlet flange to ensure a completely leak-proof transition.
