Steel Roof Sheets for Barns
Barns are big, and that is the first thing that shapes the specification. Long, uninterrupted roof slopes mean the number of horizontal laps in a run matters: every lap is a joint, and every joint is somewhere water can eventually find its way in. Because we cut every sheet to your exact length, up to 12m in box profile, most barn slopes can be covered in a single sheet from ridge to eaves.
The second thing is what is underneath. A barn full of hay behaves very differently from an empty machinery store, and a barn housing livestock behaves differently again.
Profile and gauge
Box profile in CS32/1000 or CS34/1000 is the usual choice: its rib depth lets it span the wider purlin centres common in agricultural framing. Corrugated in 13.5/3 suits older buildings and anywhere a traditional appearance is wanted.
On exposed rural sites, where wind loading is higher and access for future repairs is awkward, it is worth asking about 0.7mm rather than the 0.5mm standard.
Condensation and livestock
A single skin steel roof over animals will drip. Livestock produce a great deal of moisture, the roof is the coldest surface in the building, and the water has to go somewhere.
Dripstop sheets carry a felt membrane bonded to the underside that holds the condensate until conditions let it evaporate. This is the single most useful upgrade on a livestock barn.
Daylight and ventilation
A fully sheeted barn is dark, and lighting a large agricultural building through the working day is an avoidable cost. GRP roof lights are made in matching box profile and corrugated forms, so they fix into the same run as the steel and follow the same lap pattern. Spacing them evenly along the slope gives much better light than concentrating them in one place.
Ventilation is worth planning at the same time. Moving air is what lets an anti-condensation layer dry out between cold nights, and in a livestock building it also matters for air quality. Ridge ventilation and open eaves work with the roof rather than against it.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
