Steel Sheets for Shed Roofs
A shed roof is a small job, and the thing that makes it go wrong is almost always cutting. Trimming a steel sheet on site with an angle grinder leaves a hot, burred edge with the protective coating burned off, and that edge is where corrosion starts. It is also a slower, noisier and more awkward job than people expect.
Because we make every sheet to order, you send us the dimensions and the sheets arrive at the right length with factory-finished edges. For most sheds that means the roof goes on in an afternoon with nothing more than a drill and the right fixings.
Which profile
Either works at shed scale. Corrugated in 13.5/3 is the traditional look, with a 990.6mm cover width. Box profile in CS32/1000 is squarer and more modern, and its deeper ribs feel more rigid underfoot when you are fitting it.
Shed purlins are usually close together, so span is rarely the deciding factor.
Pitch and overhang
Steel sheets need a fall to shed water. A very shallow shed roof holds water at the laps, so if you are building from scratch, give it more pitch than you think you need.
Let the sheets overhang the eaves slightly so water drips clear of the timber rather than running back along the underside.
Condensation in a shed
A closed shed with a bare steel roof will condense in the same way a garage does. If you store tools, a mower or anything with a steel surface, it is worth either specifying anti-condensation sheets or making sure there is a proper airflow through the building.
The cheap version of ventilation is a gap at the eaves and a vent at the gable. It is not as effective as a bonded felt layer, but it is much better than a sealed box.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
