Over-Roofing a Static Caravan
Static caravans and park homes were built with a light roof covering that has a finite life, and replacing it like for like is not always the most sensible option. A steel over-roof sheds water reliably, is fixed rather than bonded, and does not depend on a coating staying intact to keep the rain out.
Because the sheets are cut to length, a typical static can be covered with sheets running the full width of the van, which means no horizontal laps along a roof that is already shallow.
Weight and structure
A caravan roof was not designed to carry a heavy covering, and a steel over-roof is usually framed off the existing structure rather than laid directly on it. Before committing, have someone competent confirm the chassis and walls can take the additional load and the fixing arrangement.
This is the part worth getting right. We can advise on the sheets; the structure is a matter for whoever is doing the installation.
Condensation and warmth
A static caravan is heated, occupied and thinly built, which makes it a strong candidate for insulated panels rather than a single steel skin. An insulated over-roof addresses heat loss and condensation at the same time.
Where a single skin is used, anti-condensation sheets are advisable given how close the roof sits to the living space.
Colour and appearance
Park sites often have rules about the appearance of a home, and it is worth checking before ordering rather than after. Our 16 colours cover the greys, greens and creams that site owners usually accept, and a plastisol finish holds its colour well in the open.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
