Stable and Field Shelter Roofing
A stable is a small, enclosed building containing a large animal that breathes out a surprising volume of water vapour overnight. On a cold morning, a bare steel roof over that is a condensing surface, and the water it collects drips onto the horse, the bedding and the feed below.
This is not a minor inconvenience. Persistently damp bedding is a welfare issue, and damp air in a poorly ventilated stable is associated with respiratory problems. Of all the buildings we supply, stables are the ones where we would push hardest for an anti-condensation specification.
Why anti-condensation, not insulation
Insulating a stable roof moves the cold surface but does not remove the moisture. Dripstop takes the opposite approach: a felt layer bonded to the underside of the sheet absorbs the condensate as it forms and releases it back into the air once the temperature rises and the air can carry it.
It needs air movement to work. A sealed stable will overwhelm any system.
Ventilation
Stables want more ventilation than owners usually expect. Air needs a way in low down and a way out at the ridge, and the two together create the movement that keeps the air dry.
Closing a stable up tightly to keep a horse warm generally makes the building damper and colder rather than drier and warmer.
Profile, light and fixings
Stable roofs are small, so profile is mostly about appearance and matching whatever is already on the yard. Box profile in CS32/1000 gives a clean modern line; corrugated in 13.5/3 suits traditional buildings and looks at home in a rural setting.
A single GRP roof light per stable transforms how the box feels to work in and reduces the need for lighting during the day. In a row of stables, placing one in each bay keeps the light even.
Because we cut to length, a typical stable or field shelter slope is covered in one sheet with no horizontal lap at all, which removes the most likely leak point in a small roof.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
