Big Six Profile in Steel
Big 6, or Big Six, is the profile most fibre cement roof sheeting was made in, and it is still on an enormous number of farm buildings, garages, workshops and industrial units across the country. When one of those roofs needs work, the question is almost never which profile looks best. It is which profile lines up with what is already there.
We manufacture Big 6 roof sheets in steel so a repair or an extension sits flush against the original covering, with the ribs aligned and the laps closing properly.
Replacing part of a roof
A steel Big 6 sheet follows the same rib pitch and height as the cement sheet it replaces, so new and old meet without a step along the lap. Trying to close that junction with a different profile means packing and sealing a gap that will keep moving.
Cut to length means the new sheets arrive matching the existing run rather than needing trimming on the roof.
A word on asbestos
Corrugated cement sheeting installed before 1999 may contain asbestos. It should not be broken, drilled or cut, and it should not be disposed of with ordinary waste.
If you are not certain what the existing sheets are, have them tested before any work starts. HSE publishes clear guidance, and licensed removal is the route where asbestos is confirmed.
Why steel rather than cement
Steel weighs considerably less than fibre cement, which matters on an older frame that was designed around the original covering and has been carrying it for decades. It also does not go brittle with age in the way cement sheeting does, so it stays predictable to work on and does not become a fragile roof over time.
Cement sheeting on an ageing roof should be treated as fragile. HSE guidance on working at height and on fragile surfaces applies to anyone going up to inspect or replace it.
Roof lights in Big 6
GRP roof lights are made in a matching Big 6 form, so daylight can be brought into a building without breaking the run or changing the fixing pattern. On an agricultural building that was originally lit by a few translucent cement sheets, this is usually how the light is replaced.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
