Roofing a Garden Room, Office or Workshop
Garden buildings sit somewhere between a shed and a house, and the specification should follow how the building is actually used. A tool store can be roofed like a shed. A garden office that is occupied through a winter working week is closer to a small building and deserves to be treated as one.
Two things separate it from an ordinary outbuilding: it is visible from the house and the garden, so appearance carries real weight, and it is heated and occupied, which changes everything about how the roof behaves.
Appearance
Our sheets are available in 16 colours across plastisol, polyester paint and galvanised finishes. Darker greys and greens tend to recede against planting; a bright colour will be the first thing you see from the kitchen window for the next twenty years.
Box profile reads as contemporary and suits a modern garden room. Corrugated is softer and sits more comfortably with an older house.
Heated and occupied
Once a building is heated, a single steel skin loses that heat quickly and condenses on the inside. Insulated panels carry a rigid core bonded between two steel skins and go on in a single fix.
Where full insulation is not warranted, anti-condensation sheets at least deal with the drips.
Rain noise
The question we are asked most often about garden offices is whether a steel roof will be noisy in the rain. On a bare single skin over an uninsulated room, yes, noticeably. On an insulated panel the difference is substantial, because the bonded core damps the drumming rather than leaving a thin steel sheet free to resonate.

What Coatings Do We Offer?
We always recommend our PVC Plastisol-coated sheets due to their cost-effectiveness and excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Polyester-coated sheets are also a high-quality, versatile option suitable for both box profile and corrugated roofing sheets. However, care must be taken to avoid scratching during handling and installation.
